Flat Bar Symbols
“As a man, I'm flesh and blood, I can be ignored, I can be destroyed; but as a symbol... as a symbol I can be incorruptible, I can be everlasting.” -probably Batman
A symbol is a mark, sign, or word that indicates, signifies, or is understood as representing an idea, object, or relationship. Symbols allow people to go beyond what is known or seen by creating linkages between otherwise very different concepts and experiences. All communication (and data processing) is achieved through the use of symbols. - internet
Design Brief:
Design or trace a logo, super hero symbol, exciting complicated shape, etc that can be made from one solid piece of metal without welding or fasteners. If you want to take the project further and create with multiple pieces design it in such a way that you can hide your welds unless that is part of the design.
Material:
1/8” thick Flat bar between 2-4 inches wide. No more than 5 inches (12cm) long.
Tools/Machines:
Bonus: Build a stand to display your project
Grading: Smooth, shiny, no cutting or tool marks. Actually looks like what you were trying to design. Didn't need replacement metal.
Expected time to finish: 4-6 hours of practical work
